Dec 7th, 2010 by cgcji_admin The Chicagoland Green Collar Jobs Initiative’s mission is to develop a skilled workforce that is ready to meet employer demands in the developing green economy and to capture new employment opportunities for Chicagoland low-skilled individuals. The Chicagoland Green Collar Jobs Initiative is currently managed by the Chicago Jobs Council . The Initiative works to explore and identify employment and job training opportunities that prepare disadvantaged workers for emerging green jobs in the energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste reduction, urban agriculture, and horticulture industries (among others). We work with programs that serve: individuals with barriers to employment, those who are unemployed or underemployed, and incumbent workers requiring updated training for new technologies. Similar to the national leader, Green for All , the initiative focuses on green collar jobs as a pathway out of poverty. We support the development of Green Collar Jobs that will focus on low-income, disadvantaged communities and developing career-paths that spur upward economic mobility.
