How to Clean Natural Floor Tile Things You'll Need: Do not wear shoes in the house. Walking across your natural tile floors in shoes is like walking across them with sandpaper. Shoes have bits of dirt and gravel on the bottoms of them that eventually wear away and scratch whatever surface you walk on. Not only will taking your shoes off at the door keep your floors from becoming damaged, they will keep them cleaner in the long run. Keep a set of slippers for everyone at the door. Wipe up spills immediately. Natural tiles can absorb liquids and it can be nearly impossible to remove a stain from them. If you were to spill red wine on a stone tile you might never get it out. A sealant that you can buy at your local home improvement center can help protect your natural tiles from stains. Vacuum your natural tiles regularly. Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar attachment. Natural tiles can be chipped and scratched by these types of vacuums. Use a bare floor attachment with a soft brush to regularly remove bits of dirt from your natural tile. Do not use any commercial cleaning products on natural tiles. The best way to clean them is with plain water and a mop. Do not saturate your mop with water. Be sure to wring out as much water as possible and clean small areas one at a time, being sure to clean the mop frequently. Commercial cleaning products, even if they claim to be safe, contain chemicals that can build up in your tiles and wear them away.
