Can We Thrive without Dollar Bills ?

Barry Koren

Let’s say that a dozen of us knew each other, and ranged in age from a baby to that of an elder.  And also for the moment, let’s say that we somehow knew that a year from now we would have no US currency or credit.

Could we survive or even thrive?  My answer would be yes.  We could figure out a way if we had hope and a determination to survive.

Here are my first thoughts about how we could live without U.S. dollar bills.

We’d decide the essentials that we would need – e.g., food, shelter, clothing, and remedies for sickness.  And then we’d look for where and how we could get them.

It’s been done before by our forebears.  Our situation is different.  We have technology and no land.  How did they survive (or better) and what clues does it give us as to how we could too.  And how do the homeless survive today?  Any clues there.  And just like in any home, we’d figure out who would do what.

The bulletin board can be a tool for helping people communicate with one another.  And, hopefully, it can help us connect with one another, and organize to help one another – whether with or without money.  After all, we all need to survive and we all live in the same village.
