Summer camp

Michelle Moragne

Thinking about summer plans for your children? Here’s a great sleep-away camp option – Camp Manito-wish, a YMCA camp in Northern Wisconsin: Summer camp -- for students entering 5th-10th grade. Single-gender 2-week or 4-week sessions, all with a wilderness trip of varying lengths; Outpost -- an extended wilderness/leadership program (backpacking, canoeing or kayaking) for 9th graders and up, for 2-6 weeks; Family Camp -- at the end of the summer, for all ages; There are also employment opportunities for teens 18-21+.

As a prior camper there myself many moons ago, I can vouch for this incredible summer experience, as can both of our children and many friends and neighbors. Since it is a YMCA camp, there are all sorts of activities like archery, horseback-riding, riflery, sailing, swimming, arts/crafts and tennis, just to mention a few. We’ve preferred this type of camp versus those that specialize in just one thing – it really opens new horizons and teaches initiative and responsibility!

Visit www.manito-wish.org for session dates, videos etc.. Or come and learn more on Wednesday January 9th, 2013, 7-8:30PM at the River Forest Public Library (in the room across from the circulation desk). RSVP to [email protected].

P.S. A limited number of “$100 off” certificates are available to new families who sign up before January 31, 2013.
