Rockford bulletin board

Yes, the downtown merchants do help each other.  And that helped me when I ate lunch at Deli Italia yesterday.  My friend had asked our waitress Stephanie for a specific coffee and she told us that she could serve us regular coffee, but we could get good coffee and lots of choices a block away at a neighboring coffee shop.  It was to heartening to hear and I asked her about it.

I met Larry when I had lunch at Deli Italia.  He is a charming, interesting man who has lots of stories about everything related to ice.  He's 65 and delivers ice to this restaurant and McDonald's, Walgreens, or wherever in the area an ice machine breaks and they need ice right away.  He gets it to them within two hours. 

A larger company bought out a lot of the small, local ice dealers.  He proposed to them that he be a distributor for them because he is local and he can get ice to local restaurants in less than two hours and do it for less than it would...

Yesterday I was talking with someone who's lived and worked in Rockford for a  long time.

When I asked how things were in Rockford, one of the things she mentioned was that heroin is rampant in Rockford.  She mentioned three people she knew who died recently, two of overdoses.  I asked why heroin was so rampant.  She said that kids are texting all the time, they’re bored, and adults with money give their kids money and leave them on their own.

I asked her what she could do about the heroin problem and the boredom.  She shrugged hr shoulders and said, “...
