THE CALL, a film to stop kids from smoking Every day 4,000 kids under 18 try their first cigarette and 1,000 become new daily smokers. Unless smoking declines, 6 million kids under 18 today will die prematurely from smoking. The award-winning film, "The Call," starring Ryan Newman and Jonathan Morgan Heit, has a powerful message to steer kids away from smoking. Michael Thun, MD, of the American Cancer Society, said: "This film has the potential to open kids' minds to the emotional costs of smoking at a stage when they can still hear this lifesaving message."
