Started by a group of food-loving neighbors, The Sugar Beet Cooperative is building a new kind of grocery store in Oak Park by Summer 2015.
The Sugar Beet will be a community managed store, will sell food directly from local farms and producers, and will provide education about the importance of supporting farmers and the local economy, as well as help folks think differently about what they eat and how they eat it. It will include a commercial kitchen where our community can take classes on cooking and preserving with the focus on eating locally year-round here in the Midwest.
The Sugar Beet will be a gathering place for people to grow, cook, discuss, and eat food together.
