Teams Serious Black from Julian and The Terminators from Brooks have just returned from the VEX Robotics National Championship in Omaha, March 7 - 9. Both teams survived a grueling series of 13 qualification matches and made it to the quarterfinals. Teams from as far away as Virginia, California, and even Puerto Rico participated in the event which was held in the brand new Ralston Arena sports complex in front of a crowd of cheering supporters.
This was our second year at the national championship and this time both Oak Park teams found that their reputation as tough contenders was already well established. Serious Black's first place finish in two previous Wisconsin tournaments and The Terminators' finalist finish at the Illinois-Great Lakes Championship had definitely been noticed. Since all VEX Robotics matches are played with an alliance partner, a lot of scouting, marketing, and strength-assessment between teams take place. The ability to score in both the high and low goals, de-score opponents' goals, and to fit under the troughs to foray into the opponents' side of the field - all of which Serious Black can do - makes a team a desirable partner.
Both teams should be proud of a job well done!
